Tom Sawyer is up to mischief, and to be sure, he’s doing it by the books.
“I’ve seen it in books; and so of course that’s what we’ve got to do.”
“Do you want to go to doing different from what’s in the books, and get things all muddled up?”
Of course not! And if it’s not in the books…
“Don’t you reckon that the people that made the books knows what’s the correct thing to do?”
And in case anyone suggests killing women…
“No; nobody ever saw anything in the books like that.”
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
resemble the adventures of
Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.
Whew. And don’t you know, Tom Sawyer knows a lot about life from books, including enchantments:
“He (Tom) said if I (Huck) warn’t so ignorant, but had read a book called Don Quixote, I would know without asking.”
You know…something tells me Mark Twain knows a little something from that book called Don Quixote, too.
